![]() ![]() As it was my friend's first meal in Japan I wanted to take her somewhere friendly and authentic. This is 'fusion food', I noticed these words on the board as I went in, and did not take proper notice. After reading the impressive reviews on TripAdvisor and finding it just a stroll from my friend's hotel, I took her here and I was disappointed. I am not new to Japan, but I am a frequent visitor. ![]() There are 55 Michelin star restaurants in Kobe. Lovely duo! Many artful creations, colour-matched, taste-harmonized, and served with ardour! Five stars, I say!! This was politely returned, and our insistence was declined by the chef, with a sweet Japanese smile. Absolutely brilliant and satiating! We were so happy with our experience, that we left a significant tip with our payment. To us it was proof of the chef’s culinary agility and versatile taste. Oh, the swirl of tastes in one’s mouth, with every morsel. This was a piping hot mix of onions, yellow peppers and bitter gourd scrambled in egg. But the piece de resistance was a dish specially prepared for my wife, who does not eat beef or pork. Of the many delicious offerings, we would especially endorse the tuna sashimi – have not seen such a lovely colour on tuna flesh anywhere before, and the Miyazaki beef – its serving announced with appropriate reverence. The food was fabulous, and it came in several courses, and we were full by the time the ice cream arrived. We had ordered the JPY5,000 initially, but changed in favour of JPY3,500, when the missus figured out that these duo love to feed their customers. But the server did exceedingly well steering us away from the Kobe steaks in favour of the chef’s menu, impromptu creations for the day, and ranging in prices from JPY3,500 to JPY10,000. Lack of Japanese language skills is an impediment here as it is in the rest of Japan. There was one server and a chef behind the counter. With usual Japanese meticulousness he did, and we found ourselves in this small, but warm and cozy eatery. A small restaurant, in a non-descript location, we had to get our taxi driver in Kobe to locate the place. I will be forever grateful to my wife for the choice, and the Chef/Server duo at Kokoroya for providing a magnificent culinary experience. We, my wife and I, had the good fortune of visiting Kokoroya for dinner on March 30, 2015.
